Ottawa County's Parent Coalition is known as Parents United for a Great Start or PUGS! The Communications Committee of PUGS was recently featured on MacTV, a Great Start partner agency. Watch the segment here!
The purpose of the PUGS is to increase parent participation in early childhood planning and decision-making for the county.
What is PUGS?
PUGS gives parents and caregivers a chance to have a voice in a truly “grassroots” effort to advocate for children in Ottawa County. The Great Start effort is founded on these Core Beliefs:
All parents want their children to be healthy, safe and successful.
Parents are their children’s first and best teachers.
We will not be strong and effective without input from parents.
Why am I important?
Your involvement in the PUGS is valuable because early childhood programs, services and supports are designed to meet the needs of you and your child. Your voice can help shape the delivery of programs and services for young children, as well as assist state legislators, service providers and businesses to understand the importance of providing high-quality, early childhood programs for ALL children.
What's in it for me?
When you get involved, you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young children. You can help make services and programs easier for families to use, while also gaining valuable information about child development and community resources that may benefit your own children and those you are close to. In addition, you have the chance to meet other families who want what's best for children. You can even learn skills and knowledge that will be useful in the workforce.
What can I do?
Everyone has their own interests and talents, and we need them all. Just let us know how you want to be involved, how much time you have to give and what skills you can share. Here are some suggestions:
Subscribe to the PUGS newsletter and stay connected via email.
Participate in meetings, events and activities, and share information in your community circles.
